Standardised Language Assessments
The standardised assessments are used with adult supervision to examine key areas of understanding. Results are reported as standard scores enabling staff to compare a pupil’s level of understanding to others of the same age. The results identify children requiring school based support and those who require discussion with the speech and language therapy service.
These areas of understanding are targetted: Concepts, Following Instructions, Verb Tenses, Negatives, Pronouns, Questions, Verbal Reasoning, Association with slight variations depending on the age of the child.
Reports and Provision Maps
Reports can be generated from the assessment and intervention data. These reports chart the levels of understanding of language for a whole class or cohort of pupils and enable schools to identify the general language levels of that year group. The needs of each cohort are presented in a provision map enabling the teacher to include the necessary strategies into their lesson planning.
Repeat testing allows schools to track progress though Key stage 1 and offers evidence of in school improvement. Junior Language Link allows schools to track progress into and through Key Stage 2.
Following the assessment, a pupil support plan is generated identifying the appropriate level of support needed for each pupil. Pupils will be recommended for classroom support and may be recommended for small group intervention.

Targeted differentiations strategies for identified areas of language
Specialist small group activities
The screening tool identifies Pupil ‘A’ with difficulties understanding language.
The teacher views the pupil’s individual profile of results
Classroom strategies are recommended
The pupil is recommended for the ‘Concepts and Following Instructions’ language group
Outcomes of interventions can be added online and feed into the pupil’s profile
Relevant hand-outs for parents are recommended.
